Jungle Safari

The Corbett Tiger Reserve, established in 1936 is named after Jim Corbett the famous naturalist and legendry hunter of man-eaters. It is nestled between two Himalayan foothills encompassing a broad flat valley, in Uttarakhand state in North India.

Spread over 1288 sq km, it is a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. The Corbett Park is covered in dense wooded deciduous forests and has crystal clear waters of the Ramganga flowing through it. The grassland or 'Chaurs' teeming with game offer nature lovers a feel of the wild. The altitude of the Park ranges between 410 and 1220 mts, this enables a wide variety of flora and fauna to flourish.

The Corbett Tiger Reserve is famous for its tigers, leopards and wild elephants. It is home to species of over 60 mammals, 30 reptiles and more than 500 birds. The Ramganga shelters the endangered fish eating crocodile the 'Gharial' and the Golden Mahseer, tor putitora, a scaled fresh
water fish, a favourite with anglers.

Jeep Safari
The term safari basically originated in East Africa. In general safari can be defined as an overland jungle drive. In toady's era, safari consist of all the activities like, animal sighting, birding, photographing and landscaping etc. An open jeep safari acts as a perfect medium for wildlife adventure and covers more areas in a shorter time.

In n the Corbett National Park, jeep safari is one exciting method to witness the animals in their natural habitat. The sight of wildlife like the tigers, leopards, crocodiles, gharials, elephants, sloth bear, leopard cat, jungle cat, langurs to name a few leave the tourists absolutely enthralled.

The jeep safaris, Corbett National Park takes the tourists deep into the jungle for them to spot the tigers or the leopards. The tiger trails can be followed to find them. The jeep safari in Corbett National Park usually starts early and the tourists get back from the trip in daylight. In the evenings the safaris are not allowed to enter the jungles for obvious reasons.

Elephant Safari
Experience an old royal tradition An elephant safari is an extraordinary and exhilarating wild journey. In ancient time there were two ways of journey by elephant back and by horse back. elephants were mostly used by kings so it is called a royal journey. By the cackling of the monkeys from the top of the tree indicates the presence of big cat. The best way to see animals is on elephant back, as elephant safari allows you to reach close to the wildness without scaring the animal away. Elephant safari in Corbett national park will definitely be an unforgettable experience for you. The timing of wildlife safari in Corbett national park is like any other wildlife sanctuary and national park in India. Timings for entry into the park and exit from the park totally depend on the season. If it's winter, entry is late and exit is early.

Four zones can be visited by Jeep Safari
  • Bijrani & Durgadevi (from 01 Oct to 30 June)
  • Jhirna & Sitabani (round the year)
  • Dhikala Zone (from 15 Nov to 15 May)

Two Jeep Safaris a day are permitted:

  • Morning safari - from 6 to 10 AM.
  • Afternoon safari - from 2 to 6 PM.
Only a limited number of jeeps are allowed in the forest in a day:
  • You are there fore advised to book the Jungle safari in advance.
  • The morning safari can be booked in advance.
  • The afternoon safari has to be booked in person on a first come first serve basis.
  • Jeep Safari to Bijrani, Durgadevi, Jhirna & Sitabani, (Jeep safari to Dhikala Zone are not permitted)
  • For Indians - Rs 3000/- per jeep (for 1 to 6 persons per jeep)
  • This is inclusive of the jeep, expert naturalist, entry cost and all taxes.
  • For Foreigners - Rs 5500/- per jeep (for 1 to 6 persons per jeep)
  • This is inclusive of the jeep, expert naturalist, entry cost and all taxes.

Elephant Ride
  • Elephant Jungle Safari for 1 - 4 persons
  • Elephant rides are available from 1st Oct to 30th June
  • 2 hrs - Rs 3000/-
  • 1 hr - Rs 1500/-
  • 30 mn - Rs 750/-

Advance Safari Booking
For Indian Nationals:
Names, ages and gender of all passengers are required, as well as a photo ID Card number of any One member per jeep which the guest must carry while on the safari.

For Foreigners:
Photocopy of passport of all guests.

Pickup / Drop Charges:
  • Ramnagar / Kashipur railway station pick-up or drop - Rs 500/-
  • Kathgodam / Haldwani railway station pick-up or drop - Rs 2000/-
